Karla Beck is an American who became a French teacher after nine years of study in high school and college, followed by a year abroad in Avignon, France, as a Rotary Foundation Scholar. Upon her return to the U.S., she had a 30-year career as a high school teacher, during which time she earned a Master's in Teaching. Traveling to France with students and family became a hobby, interspersed with a few trips to Quebec during the Winter Carnival.

At the Alliance Française de St. Louis, she teaches A1 and A2 classes, while also serving as the Director of Education. She hopes that her enthusiasm for the language is apparent, and that her students walk away with more than a little of the joy of exploring francophone culture that she herself feels.
