Summer Film Series: Occupied France During WWII
This summer, take a cinematic journey into one of the most complex and defining periods of French history. The Alliance Française de St. Louis is proud to present Occupied France During WWII, a free Summer Film Series exploring life in France under German occupation through the lens of four remarkable French films.
Join us on four Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m. in July and August for this evocative series. Each film sheds light on the moral dilemmas, quiet acts of resistance, and the daily struggles faced by ordinary people during this turbulent time.

July 20 @ 6pm – Au Revoir les Enfants (1988), Louis Malle

Take a Deeper Dive in Our Companion Class
For those looking to go deeper, we also offer a companion class taught by Webster University’s Professor Dominique Tronche-Macaire: La société française sous l’Occupation vue par le cinéma français (B1+ French level and up).
In this course, students will attend the Sunday screenings alongside everyone else, then meet for two in-depth discussion sessions on the following Wednesday evenings. The class will provide historical context, analyze key documents from the period, and explore themes such as collaboration, resistance, and the social fabric of wartime France.
Sign up for the class to enrich your understanding, build your vocabulary, and engage in meaningful conversation..
